Anti-Kickback
The anti-kickback fingers hang from a rod sus-
pended across the front of the cutterhead casting.
Check the fingers to ensure that they swing freely
and easily. See Figure 18.
DO NOT apply oil or other lubricants to the
anti-kickback fingers. Oil or grease will
attract dust and restrict movement of the
fingers, which could result in damage to
your workpiece, the planer, or possibly
serious injury to the operator.

Wood Species
The species of wood, as well as its condition,
have a dramatic effect on planing ability. The
harder the wood (as illustrated by its shear
strength), the more difficult it will be to plane. A
brief listing of common hard and soft woods in
