8.9.2 HP HPC 4x DDR IB Mezzanine HCA

HP Cluster Platform supports a server blade mezzanine HCA card that has the following features:
• 4x DDR
• Single port
• PCI–Express
• 20 Gb/s
• Memory-free
The HPC 4x DDR IB Mezzanine HCA ships with the Voltaire GridStack software. Voltaire
GridStack is a comprehensive set of drivers and protocols that enable applications to utilize the
RDMA features in the hardware. The TCP/IP emulation software incorporated into GridStack
makes InfiniBand appear to the user as a standard IP network with IP addressing, TCP/IP
protocols and IP management for easy deployment and maintenance. Supported protocols include
MPI, SDP, IPoIB and iSER. HP only supports the HPC 4x DDR IB Mezzanine HCA in HP Cluster
Platform solutions.
HP-MPI is supported on the Voltaire GridStack (HP-MPI is a high performance and production
quality implementation of the Message-Passing Interface (MPI) standard for HP servers and
workstations).
Figure 8-10 shows a 4x DDR IB Mezzanine HCA.

To obtain the best performance, plug the 4x DDR IB Mezzanine HCA into the x8 PCI–Express
connector on the server blade. The 4x DDR IB Mezzanine HCA is connected to the 4x DDR Switch
Module (see
midplane. Multiple HCAs might be plugged into available PCI-Express mezzanine connectors
per server blade and are connected to switch modules in the switch bays via the midplane. Refer
to the HP ProLiant BL460c Server Blade Maintenance and Service Guide and the HP ProLiant BL480c
Server Blade Maintenance and Service Guide for more information on installing the 4x DDR IB
mezzanine HCA in server blades.

8.9.3 Operating System and Software Requirements

Refer to the mezzanine HCA QuickSpecs and the Infiniband Software and Firmware Compatibility
Matrix for supported operating environment and firmware revisions.
