If the issue occurs when you are trying to open or copy a file, remove
these "illegal" characters from the file names. If this issue occurs
when you are connecting to the SMB server, it may be because the
share name contains the illegal character. Be sure to avoid the illegal
characters in the names of shares, folders, or drives.
In addition, the SMB protocol doesn't support letters with umlauts,
Cyrillic characters, Japanese characters, German characters or
Chinese characters. The only way to prevent this from happening is
to not use the unsupported characters in file and folder names when
using the DroboShare.
Q. My Drobo is connected to a Windows Vista computer via
DroboShare. How do I use the native Windows Vista backup tool
with Drobo/DroboShare?
A. When you use the native Vista backup tool to back up to the Drobo,
Windows will ask you for a username and password. If you have not
previously set up a username and password for DroboShare or
Drobo, use the following for username and password:
Username: droboshare\everyone
Password: Drobo
Note: In the Username above, replace "droboshare" with the name you are
using for the DroboShare.
