Q. How do I download the latest versions of Drobo Dashboard, Drobo,
and DroboShare Firmware?
A. To download the latest versions of software, click the "Check For
Updates..." button in the Advanced Controls > Tools tab.
Note: You must have administrator privileges on your computer in order to
install the upgrade for Drobo Dashboard.
Q. How do I add capacity to my Drobo?
A. Either add a standard 3.5" SATA hard drive to an empty Data Bay, or
remove the smallest capacity drive and replace with a larger capacity
drive. It's okay to do this while Drobo is running; you do not need to
put Drobo into Standby.
Q. Why does my computer show that I have more capacity than it
actually does?
A. What is reported by the operating system will vary depending on the
volume size you chose to format your Drobo. By default, Drobo will
be presented as a 2 Terabyte (TB) drive. We did this by design so that
you can easily grow your capacity. When you add enough hard drives
to exceed the volume size you chose during setup, a new volume will
be created resulting in an additional "virtual" hard drive. Both virtual
drives share the total capacity available on your Drobo.
Q. How can I tell how much capacity Drobo has left?
A. The main page of Drobo Dashboard provides the most accurate
information. See page 5. You can get an approximate idea by simply
checking the blue capacity gauge on the front of Drobo. Each blue
light represents 10% of available capacity that contains protected
data. If you observe three blue lights, you have 70% still available for
data.
Q. Will my computer tell me how much space is used on Drobo?
A. Yes, actual space used is represented accurately by your OS. The
volume size, however, will show as the size you created,
independent of the drives in your Drobo.
