Drobo S
The Tools tab gives you access to controls that allow you to customize
your Drobo. In this window you can reset your Drobo, reformat the
volumes or change settings specific to DroboShare (see page 24 for
details on DroboShare settings). If you have a Drobo S, by clicking the
"Settings" button, you can also dim the indicator lights, set the time
period for disk drive spin down, and enable dual disk redundancy.
Additionally, this page displays useful information about your Drobo and
provides an easy way to check for updates of Drobo Dashboard and
your unit's firmware.
Dual disk redundancy is a setting that will protect your stored data
against two simultaneous drive failures. When this additional safeguard
is enabled, the amount of usable space is reduced in order to provide
this protection. To use dual disk protection, you are required to have at
least three hard disks in your Drobo and sufficient free disk space.
By default, this setting is disabled. To enable it, go to Advanced
Controls -> Tools and click the "Settings" button. Dual disk protection
can be enabled or disabled at anytime as long as you meet the
minimum requirements mentioned above.
By default, Drobo S automatically spins down the hard disks after 15
minutes of inactivity. This helps save electricity and can prolong the life
of the drives. However, it will take the Drobo a few moments to spin the
