About the histogram

A histogram is a graph that displays brightness along the horizontal axis (black to
white) and the amount of pixels at each brightness level on the vertical axis.
It allows you to easily check a picture's exposure.
Examples of histogram:
Properly Exposed
Dark area, mid-tone,
and bright area are bal-
anced out evenly, mak-
ing it suitable to take a
picture.
HINT
When you take pictures with the flash or in dark places, the histogram is displayed in
orange because the recorded picture and the histogram do not match each other.

The histogram does not appear in motion picture mode
Underexposed
The picture will become
underexposed. Pictures
with mostly dark areas,
such as a night scenery,
will also have a histo-
gram like this.
Overexposed
The picture will become
overexposed. Pictures
with mostly white areas

gram like this.
