SUGAR COOKIES
What
happy feelings of nostalgia
sugar cookies evoke!
They take us back to childhood
helping Mom or
Grandma
roll out the dough.
Premeasure
ingredient
groups (sift together
ingredient
Group C). Place in bowls near Bread Machine.
All ingredients
must be at room temperature.

cup butter/margarine
cup sugar
large egg
tablespoon milk
teaspoon vanilla
cups unbleached all-purpose flour
teaspoon baking powder
teaspoon salt

Place ingredient
Group A in pan. Press
SELECT for Mixing. Press START. Mix for i minute,
scraping
down sides of pan with spatula if necessary.
Add ingredient
Group B. Mix for I minute,
scraping
down sides of pan if necessary.
Gradually add ingredient
Group C. Mix for about 30
seconds, scraping
down sides of pan if necessary. Press
CLEAR/STOP when dough appears to be well blended.
Do not overmix.
Divide dough into quarters.
On a lightly floured
surface, roll one-fourth
of dough very thin. Chill
remaining
dough. Cut dough into desired shapes with
cookie cutters and place on greased baking sheets.
Sprinkle
cookies with sugar if desired. Bake in 350°F
preheated
oven for 5 to 6 minutes.
SHORTBREADS
If you're a butter lover, you'll adore shortbread
- the
ultimate
butter cookie of the world. Our very simple
recipe goes way back and has survived the test of time
with flying colors.
Add ingredients
in the order listed. All ingredients
must be at room temperature.
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup confectioners'sugar
[] Press SELECT for Mixing. Place butter in pan.
Press START. Add remaining
ingredients.
Mix for 30
seconds to I minute,
scraping down sides of pan with a
spatula if necessary. Press CLEAR/STOP when dough
appears to be well blended. Do not overmix.
[] Shape dough as desired or use one of the following
suggestions.
Drop Cookies: Drop rounded
teaspoons
of
dough onto greased baking sheets. Pressed Cookies:
Place dough in cookie press. Press out shapes onto
greased baking sheets. Puffs: Chill dough for 1 hour
until firm. Roll teaspoons
of dough into 1-inch balls
and place on greased baking sheets.
[] Bake in 300°F preheated
oven 20 to 24 minutes, just
until lightly golden.
