Dehydrating Tips/Convection
Tips
Dehydration(Drying)isa methodof preserving
fruits,vegetables,herbs,andmeatsby
removingmoistureso bacteria,yeast,and mold
cannotgrowand spoilthe food.Yourovenuses
a convectionfan to assistthe heatingelement
in removingthe moisture fromthe foodsto dry
and preservethem.Notethatover 12hours
may be requiredto dry somefoods.

food dryingis availablefromyour local
cooperativeextensionserviceoffice.Tolocate
thisoffice in yourarea,lookin yourtelephone
directoryfor the countygovernment l istings
underyourcountyname.You can also go to

Duringdehydration, y ourovendoor must
remainpartiallyopento allowfor air circulation
and moistureremoval. U sethe dehydration
doorstop,whichis includedwithyouroven,to
hold the door openfor dehydration.
1. Openthe ovendoor.
2. Locatethe ovenlight plungerswitchon the
upper rightcornerof the ovenframe.
3. Placethe magneticend of the doorstop
overthe ovenlight plungerswitch.
4. Closethe ovendoor,allowingthe doorto
restagainstthe doorstop.
Place the magnetic end over the
oven light plunger switch. Close
the door against the doorstop.
NOTES:
• Useonlythe doorstopprovidedwithyour
ovenandonlyusethe doorstopwhile
dehydrating.
• Donot storethe doorstopinthe oven.

Dehydrating HelpfulTips:
• Multipleracksof foodcan be dried at one
time.
• Dryingtime will vary dependingon several
factors:
• numberof racks of food
• amountof food on eachrack
• size,shape,and thicknessof food
• type of dryingtraysused
• Usefood preservation resources,suchas
your localcooperativeextensionservice,asa
guide forselectingfood safe dryingtrays.
DuringConvectionRoasting, h eatcomesfrom
the top element. T heconvectionfan circulates
the heatevenlyaroundthe food.
Meatscookedin a convectionovenare dark
brownon the outsideandtenderandjuicy on
the inside.In mostcasescookingtimewill be
lesswhen usingthe ConvectionRoastfeature.
Usethe recommendedroastingtemperature.
Preheating is not necessary. C heckfoodsat
the end of the suggestedtime.Youmay
chooseto cook longer.
Whenyou are ConvectionRoasting, y ou
should usethe broilerpan and grid thatcame
withyour newoven.The pan is usedto catch
greasespills and the grid is usedto prevent
grease splatters.
