Troubleshooting
While normal care and regular maintenancewill extend the
life of your equipment, prolonged or constant use may
eventually require that service be performed to allow it to
continue operating properly.
The troubleshooting guide below lists the most common
problems, their causes, and remedies.
See the information on the following pages for instructions
on how to perform most of these minor adjustments and
service repairs yourself. If you prefer, all of these procedures
can be performed for you by your local authorized dealer.
WARNING
To avoidserious injury, performmaintenanceon the
tractoror mower only when the engine is stoppedand
the parkingbrake engaged.
Alwaysremove the ignitionkey, disconnectthe spark
plug wire and fasten it away from the plug before
beginningthe maintenance,to preventaccidental
startingof the engine.

9. Safety interlock switch faulty.
Replace.Contact your local authorized dealer.
10. Solenoid or starter motor faulty.
Replace.Contact your local authorized dealer.
Enginewill not 1. Engine is cold; choke not in CLOSEDposition.
Move choke to CLOSEDposition.

2. Engine is warm; choke not in OPENposition.
Move choke to OPENposition.
3. Engine flooded.
Set choke to OPENposition when cranking engine.
4. Out of fuel.
Allow it to cool, then refill the fuel tank.
5. Fuel is old or stale, or water in fuel.
Drain fuel and refill with fresh fuel. Note: Fuel related
issues are not covered under warranty.
Engine runs
1. Choke control not opened after engine starts.
After the engine starts, set the choke control to OPEN
poorly,
position.
Engine knocks. 1. Low oil level.
Check/add oil as required.
2. Using wrong grade oil.
See "Change Engine Oil" in the Maintenance Section.
3. Fuel is old or stale, or water in fuel.
Drain fuel and refill with fresh fuel. Note: Fuel related
issues are not covered under warranty.
