WARNING:Shut off the engine before
performing any maintenance. T o
preventaccidental start-up,disconnect
the spark plug boot.
IMPORTANT:If enginemustbe tippedto transport
equipmentor to inspect, k eepsparkplug sideof engine
up.Transportingor tippingengine sparkplug downmay
causesmoking,hard starting,spark plug fouling,or oil
saturationof air cleaner.
Periodicinspectionand adjustment o f theengine is
essentialifhigh levelperformanceisto be maintained.
Regularmaintenancewillalso ensurea long servicelife.
The requiredserviceintervals and the kindof mainte-
nanceto be performed are describedin thetable below.
Followthe hourlyor calendarintervals, whicheveroccur
first. Morefrequentserviceis requiredwhenoperatingin
adverseconditions.

• Checkoil level regularly.
• Be surecorrectoil levelis maintained.Checkevery five
hoursor daily beforestartingengine.See oil checking
procedureinthe Operationsection.
Oil Change
IMPORTANT: B e sureto checkengineon a level surface
with the enginestopped.Drainthe oil whilethe engine is
still warmto assurerapidand completedraining.
1. Removedrainplug and allowoil to drain intoa suitable
container.See Figure10-1.
2. Reinstallthe drain plugand tighten itsecurely.
3. Refillwith the recommended oil (see Operation
section)and checkthe oil level.See Figure10-1.
4. Reinstallthe oil fill cap securely.
