Starter Rope
The starterrope islocatedon the engine.See Figure4-1.
Pullthe recoilstarterrope to start the unit.
Engine Switch
The engineswitchis locatedon the engine.Turnit on
when startingthe engineand use it to turn off the engine.
Choke
The chokeis locatedon theengine and whenactivated,
closesthe chokeplateon thecarburetorand aids in
startingthe engine.
Starting
Log Splitter
WARNING:Alwayskeephandsand feet
clearof equipmentmovingparts. Do not
use a pressurizedstartingfluid. Vapors
are flammable.
NOTE: Makesurehydraulicpumpisprimedas instructed
in the "SettingUp YourLog Splitter"section.
1. Removelockingpin fromcylinderstorageposition.
See Figure4-2.
2. Usehandleto slidecylinderrearwardintothe operat-
ing"Lock"position,engagingthe safetyswitch,and
reinsertlocking pin.See Figure4-3.
3. Placethe log splitteron level,dry, and solidground.
4. Pullout the chokeknob locatedon the engine.See
Figure4-4 inset.
NOTE: Useof the chokemay not be necessaryifthe
engine iswarmor theair temperatureishigh.
5. Turnengineswitchto on. See Figure4-4 inset.
6. Pullthe startergrip lightly untilresistanceisfelt,
then pull rapidlyto overcomecompression,prevent
kickbackand startengine.See Figure4-4. If engine
does not startafter ten secondsof repeatedpulls,wait
a few minutesand repeat.
IMPORTANT:Donot allowthe startergrip to snap
back againstthe rope guide.Returnit gentlyto prevent
damageto the starter.
7. Whenenginewarmsup,push inthe chokeknob.
8. Usethe hydraulicvalvecontrol to extendand retract
cylinder4-6 cyclesto removetrappedair inthe
system.

areas are hot and cancausea burn.Do
not touch.
