5. Chockbothwheels,front and rear,and haveyour
f
helper graspthe front of the unit and carefullytilt it

back to exposethe beltdrive underneath.
IMPORTANT: T o preventengineoil from entering
carburetorand/or hydraulicoil from escapingthroughthe
air venthole,do not tilt unitto the side.
6. Whileyour partnercontinuesto hold the unit up,grasp
the idler pulleynut with a 9/16 hexwrenchor socket
and pivotthe idler bracketas shownin Figure5-2.
This will enablethe belt to be easily removedfromthe
idler pulley.
WARNING:Avoidthe possibilityof
a pinchinginjury. Do not placeyour
fingers on the idler springor between
the belt and a pulleywhile removingthe
belt.
7. Removethe beltfrom aroundthe engineand pump
pulleys.
8. Routethe newbeltaroundthe threepulleysas shown
in Figure5-2.
NOTE: Idlerbracketmustpivot freely.
9. Haveyourpartnerlowerunit and remountthe belt
cover removedearlier.Do notovertighten.
10.Removepieceof plasticfrom gas cap (if used).
11.Reconnect s park plug.
Storing
Your Log Splitter
Prepareyourlog splitterfor storageat the end of the
seasonor ifthe log splitterwill not be usedfor 30 daysor
more.

WARNING:Neverstoremachinewith
fuel in the fuel tank insideof building
where fumes may reach an open flame
or spark,or where ignitionsources
are presentsuch as hot waterand spaceheaters,
furnaces, clothesdryers,stoves,electricmotors,etc.

2. Wipeunitwith an oiled rag to preventrust,especially
on the wedgeand the beam.
3. Drainfueltank. Alwaysdrainfuel into approved
containeroutdoors,awayfrom openflame. Be sure
that engineis cool beforedrainingthe fuel. Do not
smokewhile handlingfuel.
4. Start the engineand letit run untilthe fuel lines and
carburetorare empty.
5. Removesparkplug. Holdinga rag overthecylinder
hole,pour approximately 1/2ounce (approximately
one tablespoon)of engineoil intocylinderand crank
slowlyto distributetheoil.
6. Replacesparkplug.
7. Do not storegasolinefrom one seasonto another.
8. Replaceyour gasolinecan if it startsto rust.Rust
and/ordirt inthe gasolinewill causeproblems.
NOTE:Formoreinformationon storingthe engine,refer
to the EngineMaintenancesection.
9. Storeunitin a clean,dry area. Donot store nextto
corrosivematerials,suchas fertilizer.DO NOTstore
unit inuprightposition.
1. Cleanthe log splitterthoroughly.
NOTE:Wedo not recommendthe useof pressurewash-
ers or gardenhoseto cleanyourunit. They maycause
damageto bearingsor the engine.The useof water will
resultin shortenedlifeand reduceserviceability.
NOTE:If storinginan unventilated or metal storage
shed, be certainto rustproofthe equipmentby coating
with a lightoil or silicone.
