Fuel Recommendations
Use automotive gasoline(unleadedor low leadedto
minimizecombustion chamberdeposits)with a minimum
of 87 octane.Gasolinewith up to 10%ethanolor 15%
MTBE(MethylTertiaryButyl Ether)can be used. Never
usean oil/gasolinemixtureor dirty gasoline.Avoid
gettingdirt, dust, or water in the fuel tank.DO NOTuse
E85 gasoline.

ARNING:Gasoline is extremelyflam-
mable and is explosiveunder certain
conditions.
Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine
stopped. Do not smoke or allow flames or sparks
in the area where the engine is refueledor where
gasoline is stored.
Do not overfill the fuel tank (there should be no fuel
in the filler neck). After refueling,make sure the tank
cap isclosedproperlyand securely.
Be careful not to spill fuel when refueling. Spilled
fuel or fuel vapor may ignite.If any fuel is spilled,
make sure the area is dry before starting the engine.
Avoidrepeatedor prolongedcontact with skin or
breathing of vapor.
Check Fuel Level
1. Cleanaroundfuelfill beforeremovingcap to fuel.
2. Filltank to approximately one inchbelowlowest
portionof neck to allowfor fuelexpansion.Be careful
notto overfill.
IMPORTANT:Beforerefueling,allowengineto cool two
minutes.
Starting

ARNING:Alwayskeep hands and
feet clear of equipment moving parts.
Do not use a pressurizedstarting fluid.
Vapors are flammable.
1. Checkto makesurethat cylinderis inthe operating
"Lock"position,engagingsafety switch.
2. Pull out thechoke knoblocatedon the engine.See
Figure9-3 inset.

NOTE:Useof the chokemay not be necessaryif the
engine iswarmor the air temperature is high.
3. Turnengineswitchto on.
4. Pullthe startergrip lightly untilresistanceisfelt,
then pull rapidlyto overcomecompression,prevent
kickbackand startengine.See Figure9-3. If engine
does notstart after tensecondsof repeatedpulls,wait
a few minutesand repeat.
IMPORTANT: D o notallowthe startergrip to snap
backagainstthe ropeguide. Returnit gentlyto prevent
damageto the starter.
5. Whenenginewarmsup,push in the chokeknob.
