engine.Disconnectthe spark plug
wire and groundit againstthe engineto prevent

cause the hoses to burst, cylinder

released, which could resultin serious personal

Hydraulic
Fluid
• Checkthehydraulicfluidlevelin the log splitter
reservoirtank beforeeachuse. Maintainfluid levelto
just belowtheoil plug.
• Havethe hydraulicfluid in the reservoir changedevery
100hoursof operation.See yourauthorizedservice
dealerto havethe hydraulicfluidchanged.
Beam and Splitting
Wedge
• Lubricatetop and bottomof the beam(whereitcomes
intocontactwith the cylinder),beforeeachuse, with
engineoil.
Hose
Clamps
(if Equipped)
Check,beforeeach use, ifhoseclampson the suction
hose(attachedto the side of the pump)are tight.
Checkthehoseclampson the returnhoseat least
oncea season.
Engine
Referto the Enginemaintenancesectionfor all mainte-
nanceinstructions.
Changing
the Belt

ARNING:Be sure to shut the engine
off, disconnect the spark plugwire(s)
and ground against the engineto
preventunintended starting before
removingthe belt.
Thebelt on your log splitteris subjectto wearand should
be replacedif anysigns of wearare present.
IMPORTANT: T heV-beltfoundon yourlog splitteris a
non-clutching, c onstanttensionbelt. A substitute(non-
OEM)V-beltcanbe dangerous.Fora properworking
machine,usefactoryapprovedbelts.
Tochangeor replacethebelt on your log splitter,proceed
as follows:
3. Disassembling the pump
4. Use of incorrecthydraulicfluid
5. Lack of lubricationor improperlubricationof the
beamor unit
6. Excessiveheatingof the hydraulicsystem
7. Attemptingto startunit in temperatures under20°F
withoutpre-heatingfluidin reservoir
8. Unattendedleaks in hydraulicsystem
NOTE:This procedurerequiresthe assistanceof a
secondperson.
1. Placethe unitin the transportpositionon levelground
as shownin Figure5-1.
2. Disconnectthe spark plug wireand groundit against
the engine.
3. Draingasolineor placea pieceof plasticbeneaththe
gascap to preventgasolineleakage.
4. Removethebelt coverby removingthe six self-tap-
ping screwsthat fastenit to the frame.See Figure5-1.
