USING FEATHERBOARDS
FOR
THRU-SAW_NG
Featherboards are not employed for thru sawing oper-
ations when using the miter gauge,
Featherboards
are used to keep the Work
in contact
with the fence
and table
as shown,
and
to help st(_;p
kickbacks.
Add 7-1/2 inch high flat facing board to the fence, the
full length of the fence.
Mount featherboards to fence and table as shown, so
that leading edges of featherboards will support work,-
piece.
l WARNING: Make sure the featherboatd
against
the edge presses only on the uncut portion (for-
ward of the blade), it might otherwise
pinch the
blade in the kerr and cause a kickback.
Before starting the operation (turn switch
"OFF" and
lower cutter below table surface):
(a) Install featherboards so they exert pressure on the
workpiece; be positive they are secure, and
(b) Make sure by trial that the featherboards
wit stop a
kickback if one should occur.

WARNING: To avoid kickback push forward
only
on the part of the workpiece
that
will
pass
between the blade and the fence.
Keep your hands out of the saw blade path and push
the worKpiece forward until the trailing end is on top of
the table, Stop your thumbs at the front
edge of the
table, Finish the cut with the appropriate work helper, a
push stick or push block.
