You can check the battery's condition on a menu screen,

If for some reason, communication with the aattery is not successful, me

viewfinder. When you check the battery info, [Cannot communicate
with battery] will be displayed. However. shooting will stil be possible.
It you use any battery other than Battery Pack LP-E4, the camera might
not attain its full performance. _ may also cause camera malfunction.
Using Battery Pack LP-E4 is recommended
