This is for close-up flash photography
when you want to set the flash level
manually. Use an 18% gray cai d and an EX-senes Speedlite which has
manual flash mode. Follow the instructions
below:
1. Set the camera and Speedlite settings.
, Set the camera's shooting
mode <M> or <Av >.
- Set the Speedlite to manua
flash mode
2. Focus the subject.
o Focus manually.
3. Set up me 18% gray card
, Place the gray card at the subject's position.
In the viewtind._r, the entire spot metering circle at the center should
cover me gray cara.
4. Press the <FEL> button, (G16)
5 Set the flash exposure
ievel.
• Adjust the SDeedlite's manual flash level and the camera
aper[ure so that the flash exposure level aligns v¢ith the
standard exposure index.
6. Take the picture.
, Remove the gray cara and take the picture.

compensation
has already been set with the Speedlite,
you canno_ use [he camera's <m,_
> button or Flash function settings
menu [o set flash exposure
compensat on. _f it is set with both the
samera and Speedlite. the SpeedlJte's setting ovendes the camera's.

If focus cannot be achievea with the external Speedlite's AF-assist
beam. select the center AF point. With some external Speedhtes.

series Speedlites.
The flash function's
[E-TTL H] setting will work toge[ner with C.Fn {I -4
_p,164). And [Flash firing]
will work with C.Fn I1-6 (p.165).
Only [E-TTL H] and [Hash
exp. cornp]
can be settab[e for flash function
settings with an EX-series Speedlite not controllaule
