Engine
Oil
1.
Stoptheengine andwaitseveral minutes before checking theoil level.
2.
Removethe oil fill dipstick.See Figure22.
Useextremecautionwhenworkingwith kerosene.It is an extremely
flammablefluid.
Hydraulic
Filter
Changethe hydraulicfilter every50 hoursof operation.Use onlya 10
micronhydraulicfilter.Orderpart number723-0405.
BEAM
AND
SPLITTING
WEDGE
Beforeeach use,lubricatebothsides of the beam(whereit comesinto
contactwith the splittingwedge)with engineoil. Thewedgeplateon
the log splitteris designedso the gibson the sideof the wedgeplate
can be removedand rotatedand/or turnedoverfor evenwear.See the
Gib Adjustmentsection.
Makecertainto readjustthe adjustmentbolts sothe wedgemoves
freely,but no excessspaceexists betweenthe wedgeplateand the
beam.
ENGINE
If the engine hasbeen running,the muffler,enginehead and spark
plugwill be very hot. Be carefulnot to touchany of thesecomponents
untilthey havecooled.
Oil Recommendations
Referto the viscositychart (Figure21) for oil recommendations. Do not
over-fill.Usea 4-stroke,or an equivalenthigh detergent,premiumqual-
ity motoroil certifiedto meet or exceedU.S.automobilemanufacturer's
requirements for serviceclassification of a minimumlevelSF or SG
(higherletter ratingsare acceptablesuch as SJ, SL and SMgrades).
Motoroil willdisplaythis designationon thecontainer.
