OPERATING TIPS
Always:
1.
Use cleanfluidand checkthe fluid levelregularly.
2.
Use an approvedhydraulicfluid.Approvedfluids includeShell Tel-
lus®S2 M32 HydraulicFluid,Dexron®III / Mercon®automatic
transmission fluid, Pro-Select
TM
AW-32HydraulicOil or 12WAW-
ISOviscositygrade32 hydraulicoil.
NOTE: It is not recommended that hydraulicfluids be mixed.
3.
Alwaysensurethat the filter is in place.Cleanor replacethe filter
regularly.
4.
This unitcomeswith a breathercapon the fluidreservoir.Donot
useany othertype of reservoircap.
5.
Makesurethe pumpis mountedand alignedproperly.
6.
This unitcomeswith a flexible"spider"type couplingbetween
theengine and pumpdriveshafts.Do notuse anyothertype of
coupling.
7.
Keepthe hosesclearand unblocked.
8.
Bleedthe air out of the hoses byfully extendingand retracting
thewedge 12completecyclesto removeanyair trappedin the
systembeforeoperating.
9.
Flushandcleanthehydraulic systembeforerestarting afterservicing.
SeeService and Maintenance s ection.
10. Use "pipedope"on all hydraulicfittings.
11. Allowtime forthe engineto warm-upbeforesplittingwood.
12. Primethepumpbeforethe initialstart-upby turningoverthe
enginewith spark plugdisconnected.
13. Splitthe woodalong thegrain (lengthwise)only.
Never:
1.
Use whenfluidis below200F or above1500R
2.
Use a solidengine/pump coupling.
3.
Operatethroughreliefvalve for morethan 5 seconds.If the
wedgestopsmovingor reachestheend of its stroke,releasethe
controlhandleor REVERSE itwithin 5 secondsto avoidputting
stresson thehydraulicsystemand engine.
4.
Attemptto adjustunloadingor reliefvalvesettings.
5.
Operatewith air in the hydraulicsystem.
6.
Use teflontapeon the hydraulicfittings.
7.
Attemptto cut woodacrossthegrain.
8.
Attemptto removepartiallysplit woodfrom the wedgewith your
hands.Fully retractthe wedgeto dislodgethewood with the log
dislodger.
