Gasoline
Operatingthe enginewith E85fuel, an oil/gasolinemixture,dirty
gasoline,or gasolineover30 days old that has not beenstabilizedus-
inga fuel additive,may resultin damageto yourengine'scarburetor.
Subsequent d amagewouldnot be coveredunderthe manufacturer's
warranty.
Use automotive gasoline(unleaded or low leadedto minimizecombus-
tionchamberdeposits)with a minimumof 87 octane.Gasolinewith
up to 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)can be
used. Neveruse an oil/gasolinemixtureor dirty gasoline.Avoidgetting
dirt, dust,or waterin the fueltank. DONOT use E85gasoline.
An adultshouldfuelthis engine.NEVERallowchildrento refuelthis
engine.Gasoline(fuel)vaporsare highlyflammableand canexplode.
Fuelvaporscan spreadand be ignitedby a sparkor flame manyfeet
away from engine.Topreventinjuryor deathfrom fuelfires, DO NOT
useleadedfuel, Fuelmust be freshand clean. NEVERusefuel left
over from last seasonor storedfor long periods,NEVERmix oil with
fuel and DONOTuse fuelcontainingMethanol(WoodAlcohol).
Beforerefueling, a llowthe engineto cool for two minutes.

Be sureengine is outdoorsand in a well-ventilated area.
3.
Cleanareaaroundthe fuelfill capand removethe fuelfill cap.
4.
Usingan approvedred GASOLINE container,add fuel slowly,
beingcarefulto avoidspilling.
5.
Fill thetank untilthefuel reachesthe"fuel full" indicator m ark.

Replacethe fuel capand tighten securely. W ipe up spilledfuel be-
forestartingengine.If fuel isspilledDO NOTstartengine.Move
machineawayfrom area of spillage.Avoidcreatinganysourceof
ignition untilfuelvaporsare gone.
7.
Be surefuel valve isopen.
PREPARING
THE LOG SPLITTER
1.
Lubricatethebeamarea (wherethe splittingwedgewill slide)with
engineoil. Donot usegrease.
2.
Removethe ventedreservoirdipstick,which is locatedin front of
the engineon topof the reservoirtank.See Figure10.

NOTE:Thelogsplitter i sfilledtotheproper operating level f romthe
manufacturer withShell T ellus® $2 M32 Hydraulic Fluid. H owever, you
MUST checkthefluidlevel b efore operating. I fnotfilled, p roceed withthe
following steps:
Muchof the originalfluidhas beendrawnintothe cylinderand hoses.
If the reservoiris emptyor low, makecertainto refillitto prevent
damageto the hydraulicpump.

Checkthe fluidlevelusingthe dipstick.See Figure8. Donot
overfill.
4.
Replacethe venteddipsticksecurely,tighteningituntilthe top of
the threadsare flush with topof the pipe.
5.
Disconnectthe sparkplug and primethe pumpby pullingthe
recoilstarteras far as itwill go. Repeatapproximately 10times.
6.
Reconnect t he spark plugwire and startthe enginefollowingthe
instructionsin the Operationsection.
7.
Usethe controlhandleto engagethe wedgeto the farthest
extendedposition.Thenretractthe wedge.
8.
Refillthe tankas specifiedon the dipstick.
NOTE:Failureto refillthe tank will voidthe splitter'swarranty.
9.
Extendand retractthe wedge12 completecyclesto removeany
air trappedin the system(the systemis "self-bleeding").
10. Refillthe reservoirwithinthe rangemarkedon the dipstick.
NOTE:Somefluidmay overflowfromthe vent plug as the system
buildsheatandthe fluid expandsand seeksa balancedlevel.
