2.3 Troubleshooting Problems

Problem
Power does not come on
No printing
White stripes or smearing
appear
Soiled paper
Spur tracks appear
Broken vertical lines
Error does not occur at
ink-out
Abnormal noise
Probable Cause / Check Items
AC adapter, control board, DC cable.
BJ cartridge, purge unit, ink tank, or
orange cap/tape still affixed to print
head.
BJ cartridge, faulty BJ cartridge
contacts, cartridge ribbon cable, purge
unit, control board, ink tank.
Ink mist, etc., at the platen's paper guide
plate is soiling the paper.
Check for any ink adhering to the paper
transport parts. (The paper is already
soiled when it reaches the platen.)
Deformed spur tips.
Paper thickness lever not properly set.
The nozzle check pattern's printout is
misaligned.
Guide shaft not greased properly.
Faulty carriage motor.
Ink sensor, control board
LF motor 2-step gear, purge unit, sheet
feeder unit, orange cap still attached to
the print head.

Solution
Replace faulty part.
Replace faulty part.
Replace faulty part.
Use a soft cloth dampened with water to
clean.
Disassemble the paper transport parts
and use a soft cloth dampened with
water to clean. Pass several sheets
through.
Replace the spur unit.
Set it to the proper position.
Readjust the printing position.
Apply proper amount of grease on the
stipulated parts.
Replace carriage motor.
Replace faulty part.
Replace faulty part.
