    Printing Your Document After you set up the printer, start printing. This section describes how to print a document on plain paper. Printing from Windows Create a document using an application program. (Or, open the file you wish to print.) Specify the paper size in the application program you are using.

    Using the BJ Cartridges and Scanner Cartridge About Cartridge Types - When you perform a print job, two different types of BJ Cartridges must be installed onto the car- tridge holder. When the ink of a specific colour runs out, only the empty ink tank needs to be replaced.

    Scanning and Saving the Image This section describes the basic operation procedures from launching the IS Scan software (IS Scan Plus for Windows or IS Scan for Macintosh) to scanning and saving the image. Remove the BJ Cartridge installed on the left side of the cartridge holder and then install the Color Image Scanner Cartridge IS-32.

The white level calibration data is stored into memory and used for maintaining the correct colour balance of scanned images.

    Routine Maintenance Printing a Nozzle Check Pattern The nozzle check pattern confirms whether the inks are being correctly ejected from the print head nozzles and whether the print heads on the two BJ Cartridges are correctly aligned. Print the nozzle check pattern when the printouts are streaked or the colour tones are not correct, or after print head cleaning has been performed.

    Routine Maintenance Cleaning the Print Heads Cleaning the print heads clears the nozzles. There are two ways to clean the print heads: normal print head cleaning and deep print head cleaning. Always execute normal print head cleaning first. If this does not correct the problem then execute deep print head cleaning. Important Cleaning the print heads consumes ink so clean the print heads only when necessary.

    Solution: Check that Windows Explorer can successfully read the disk. If the CD-ROM is unreadable, contact a Canon service facility. Check that the CD-ROM icon is displayed on the screen. If the CD-ROM is unreadable, contact a Canon service facility.

    Paper jams Solution: Slowly pull the paper out from the paper feed side or the paper output side, whichever is easier. If the paper tears and some of it is left in the printer, switch the printer off, open the front cover and remove the jammed paper fragments.

    Troubleshooting Cause: Paper wrinkled, curled. Solution: Check that you are using appropriate media. Paper that is folded, curled or crumpled not only feeds incorrectly, but may also cause paper jams. Cause: Auto Feeder is not selected in printer driver. Solution: Open the Printer Properties dialog box and click on the Advanced button in the Main tab.

Cause: Printer has been operating for a long time.

Solution: Start the print procedure again and make sure BJC-6100 is displayed in the Name box of the Print dialog box.

    Troubleshooting Print side rubbed and stained Cause: The Paper Thickness Lever is not positioned correctly. Solution: When you print data that consumes a large quantity of ink, the print side may be rubbing because it has a tendency to curl, depending on the media you are using. If this occurs, set the Paper Thickness Lever to the Down position.
