Submixing for Signal Routing
and Effects Processing
The bussing and mixing features in Pro Tools
support myriad possibilities for submixing and
signal routing, including the ability to:
• Monitor and mix disk tracks with audio in-
puts or with MIDI input
• Bus submixes for effects processing or moni-
toring
• Mix submixes with Master Faders
Monitoring Audio with Auxilary
Input Tracks
Use Auxiliary Input tracks to monitor and mix
external audio sources—such as MIDI instru-
ments, tape, microphone inputs, and other in-
struments—in a Pro Tools mix.
To use Auxiliary Inputs to monitor and mix
external audio sources:
Connect the audio outputs of your audio
1
source (such as a MIDI synthesizer or tape out-
put) to available inputs on your Pro Tools audio
interfaces.
If necessary, configure the I/O Setup dialog for
2
the input paths you plan to use (see Chapter 7,
"I/O Setup.")
Use an existing or create a new Auxiliary Input
3
track with the corresponding number of chan-
nels for your audio source (mono, stereo, or
multichannel).
Set the input of the Auxiliary Input track to
4
the corresponding input path.
Assign the track output to the appropriate
5
path or paths for monitoring.
Adjust the Auxiliary Input fader to mix the au-
6
dio input.
