Track Types
Pro Tools provides five different types of audio
tracks:
• Audio
• Auxiliary Input
• Master Fader
• Instrument
Mono and stereo audio tracks are available on
all Pro Tools systems.
Multichannel audio tracks and surround mixing
formats are supported by Pro Tools HD only.
Pro Tools provides two types of MIDI tracks:
• MIDI
• Instrument
Instrument tracks are listed under both au-
dio tracks and MIDI tracks because they are
a combination of Auxiliary Input and MIDI
tracks.
Pro Tools HD provides VCA Master tracks,
which do not pass audio or control MIDI, but do
affect controls on other tracks. See "VCA Master
Tracks" on page 528.
Tracks can be identified in the Mix window by
their Track Type icon.
