B Continuous Access Synchronous Z scripting

This appendix describes how to use script files to perform Continuous Access Synchronous Z
operations.

Scripting overview

An added benefit of the Continuous Access Synchronous Z feature is its support for scripting
operations. This capability provides the user with additional flexibility in managing their Continuous
Access Synchronous Z environment. A Continuous Access Synchronous Z script file contains a list
of macros (commands) that describes a series of pair operations. The scripting macros are defined
in a text file, and the Continuous Access Synchronous Z software reads the text file and executes
the specified Continuous Access Synchronous Z pair operations. A script file that was created for
XP12000 Disk Array/XP10000 Disk Array or an earlier storage system model can also be used
for P9500 Continuous Access Synchronous Z.
Continuous Access Synchronous Z supports scripting for managing predefined operations. The
scripting function enables you to define multiple operations in a text file that the Continuous Access
Synchronous Z software reads and executes as a batch file. Scripting allows you to perform a
series of Continuous Access Synchronous Z operations without having to issue the commands
separately. Using Continuous Access Synchronous Z scripting, you can set up and execute a large
number of Continuous Access Synchronous Z commands within a short period of time. The scripting
function enables you to:
Save time by executing multiple operations with a single command
Run a series of predefined and tested operations after hours or overnight, and/or
Allow a nonresident system administrator to set up and start an entire day's worth of operations
in the limited time that the administrator is on site.
