Adding a Daughter Card Modem

If you ordered the optional modem at the same time that you ordered your
computer, Dell has already installed the modem for you.
Make sure that the work surface is flat and clean to prevent scratching
1
the computer cover.
Save and close any open files, exit any open programs, and shut down
2
the computer (see page 24).
Disconnect the computer from the electrical outlet.
3
Wait 10 to 20 seconds and then disconnect any attached devices.
4
Remove any installed PC Cards, batteries, and devices.
5
To ground yourself, periodically touch an unpainted metal surface on
6
the back of the computer while you work.
Handle components and cards by their edges, and avoid touching pins
7
and contacts.
Turn the computer over, and remove the screws from the modem
8
cover.
Place your finger under the cover at the indentation and lift and slide
9
the cover open.
If a modem is not already installed, go to step 11. If you are replacing a
10
modem, remove the existing modem:
Remove the screw(s) securing the modem to the system board,
a
and set them aside.
Pull straight up on the attached pull tab to lift the modem out of
b
its connector on the system board and disconnect the modem
cable.
