Converting 3D CAD files to PDF documents
You can import any supported 3D file into a PDF document. In Adobe Reader or Acrobat,
viewers can interact with the 3D model using the built-in zoom, pan, and rotation tools, as
well as other 3D features.
To create a PDF document from a 3D file:
1. Do one of the following:
To create a single-page document, choose File > Create PDF > From File. Select the
supported 3D file you want to open, and then click Open.
To create a multi-page document in which each 3D file is on a separate page, choose File
> Create PDF > From Multiple Files. Click Browse, select the supported 3D files you
want to open, and then click OK.
For some 3D CAD formats, the authoring application must be installed for the 3D file to
be converted.
2. In the Acrobat 3D Conversion dialog box, do one of the following, and then click OK:
Under 3D Conversion Settings, specify a preset: High Quality to import the 3D file with
more detail and a greater file size, Small File to import the 3D file with less detail and a
smaller file size, or a custom preset you created. (See

Specify custom conversion settings: Change options on the General, Import, Optimize,
Enhance, and Transform panels. (See
You can also drag a 3D file into Acrobat (or onto the application icon) to create a
new single-page PDF file with a 3D model. In addition, you can right-click the 3D file and
choose Convert to Adobe PDF to convert a single file or Combine In Adobe Acrobat to
specify multiple files.
To insert a page with a 3D model:
1. Open a PDF document, and choose Document > Insert Pages.
2. In the Select File To Insert dialog box, choose the file type from the Files Of Type menu
(Windows) or Show menu (Mac OS). Select the supported 3D file you want to open, and
then click Select.
3. Specify where you want to insert the 3D model, and click OK.
4. Do one of the following, and then click OK:
