Cisco Optics
Cisco Optics
Cisco offers a comprehensive portfolio of pluggable transceiver modules across
Cisco switching and routing platforms. Cisco pluggable transceivers provide a
convenient, scalable and modular solution for the adoption of Fast Ethernet, Gigabit
Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, and 40G/100G Ethernet in data center, campus, storage
area, metro access and service provider core networks.
As part of the Cisco end-to-end solution, pluggable transceivers are individually
tested and qualified across switching and routing platforms and are an integral part of
the overall architecture. Sold as spares or configurable options, transceiver modules
benefit from the pay-as-you-populate model they enable. Customers can purchase
the exact model and quantity required for their cabling infrastructure and for the
number of ports they are planning to utilize. Additionally, customers can rest assured
their investment in the Cisco equipment is protected as they will have the opportunity
to reconfigure their connectivity scheme with our breadth of offerings. Cisco
transceiver modules are fully supported by the Cisco Technical Assistance center
and warranty contracts purchased for the Cisco platform where they are used are
directly applicable to the transceivers at no extra cost.
Cisco 40 and 100 Gigabit Modules
Cisco offers a range of QSFP+ and CFP modules for 40 Gigabit Ethernet (40 GBE) and 100 Gigabit Ethernet
(100 GBE) deployments. To meet ever growing bandwidth requirements in service provider, data center and
enterprise networks, 40 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet was officially standardized in July 2010 under IEEE 802.3ba.
In response, Cisco's Transceiver Module Group now delivers industry-leading, standard-compliant, multi-
source agreement (MSA) compliant 40 GBE and 100 GBE pluggable transceiver modules.
100 GBE CFP modules help provide connectivity options within service provider network and from large data
centers to service provider networks. Offered for several reaches and transmission media, these modules
are supported in Nexus 7000 series switches, as well as Cisco CRS and ASR 9000 series routers. For further
compatibility details including minimum software requirements and line cards support, please refer to the
100-Gigabit compatibility matrix:

40 GBE QSFP+ and CFP modules address bandwidth growth requirements from server access switches
to distribution and core layers of data centers and enterprise, and enable connectivity into service provider
networks. Offered for several reaches and transmission media, these modules are supported in Nexus 3000
and 7000, series switches, as well as Catalyst 6500 series switches. For further compatibility details including
minimum software requirements and line cards support, please refer to the 40-Gigabit compatibility matrix:
