Removal and replacement procedures for
Customer Self-Repair parts
This chapter provides removal and replacement procedures for Customer Self-Repair parts.

determine whether Customer Self-Repair is supported in your location.

Component replacement procedures

To remove and replace computer components, use these procedures.
NOTE:
Details about your computer, including the model, serial number, product key, and length of
warranty, are on the service tag at the bottom of your computer.
NOTE:

region, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
Make special note of each screw size and location during removal and replacement.

Preparation for disassembly

Use this information to properly prepare to disassemble and reassemble the computer.

Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
IMPORTANT:
Regardless of the power state, voltage is always present on the system board as long as the
system is plugged into an active AC outlet. In some systems, the cooling fan is on even when
the computer is in the Standby or Suspend modes. Always disconnect the power cord before
servicing a unit.

Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.

Disconnect all external devices from the computer.

During disassembly, label each cable as you remove it, and note its position and routing. Keep
all screws with the removed components.
