Chapter 11
ERROR MESSAGES
ERROR MESSAGE
CAUSE
The document was not inserted or fed
Document Jam
properly, or the document scanned from
the ADF was too long.
The drum unit needs to be cleaned.
Drum Error
The machine is set to Distinctive Ring
DR Mode in Use
mode. You can not change the Receive
Mode from Manual to another mode.
The fuser unit is too cold.
Fail to Warm up
The fuser unit is too hot.
Unit is too Hot
The inside of the machine is too hot.
Machine too Hot
The toner cartridge and drum unit
No cartridge
assembly is not installed or is not
installed properly.
The machine is out of paper or paper is
No Paper Fed
not properly loaded in the paper tray.
No Response/Busy The number you dialled does not
answer or is busy.
You tried to access a One-Touch or
Not Registered
Speed Dial number that is not
programmed.

Set Distinctive Ring to Off.
See Turning off the Distinctive Ring on page A-3.
Turn off the machine's power switch, and check the
machine's environment. If it is in a location that is too
hot or too cold, try to cool or warm the room by turning
on the air conditioner or heater. Or, change the
location. Then, turn on the machine's power switch.
(The machine can be disconnected for up to 4 days
without losing faxes stored in the memory.)
Listen to the machine to check that the cooling fan is
spinning.
Make sure that the air vents are not covered up or
blocked.
If the fan is spinning and air vents are clear, you should
let the machine cool down for several minutes before
using it again.
If the fan is not spinning, follow the suggestions below.
Turn off the machine's power switch and then on
again. If the error message continues leave the
machine for several minutes and then try it again. (The
machine can be turned off for up to 4 days without
losing faxes stored in the memory.)
Reinstall the toner cartridge.
Refill the paper in the paper tray and then press
Start.
—OR—
Remove the paper and load it again and then press
Start.
Verify the number and try again.
Set up the One-Touch or Speed Dial number.
