MAINTENANCE
8-1 TROUBLESHOOTING
.
Power
does
not
come ON.
.
No
sound
comes
from the speaker.
.
No
contact
possi-
ble
with
another
station.
. Repeater cannot
be accessed.
. Frequency
cannot
be set.
. Scan
does
not
operate.
. All programmed
memories have
been erased.
e Polarity of the power con-
nection is reversed.
ə Blown fuse.
e The
[MAIN SOL]
or [SUB
SQL]
control is turned too
far clockwise.
e The optional tone squelch
is turned
ON
when
the
UT-40 is installed.
e The
transceiver
is set
to
duplex.
e Wrong
offset frequency
is
programmed.
e Wrong subaudible tone fre-
quency is programmed.
ə The
lock
function
is acti-
vated.
9 CALL
CHANNEL
mode
is
selected.
e Manual-RIT
or
manual-
VXO function is activated.
e Squelch is open.
e Scan edge A equals B.
e All
memory
channels
are
programmed
as
the
skip
channel.
e Data error occurred
in the
CPU
RAM
because
of the
following problems:
- The
backup
battery
is
empty.
- The
CPU
has been
dam-
aged by static.
9 Reconnect the power cable
observing the proper polari-
ty.
9 Check
the
cause,
then
replace the fuse.
eSet
the
[MAIN
SOL]
or
[SUB
SQL]
control at the
threshold point.
e Turn OFF the tone squelch
function.

e Set to simplex.
e Correct
the
quency.
€e Correct
the
tone frequency.

Be
sure
the
offset
and
subaudible tone frequencies
are independently program-
med
on
each
memory
channel.
ePush
the
[SUB]
switch
several
times
until
"L"
disappears.
e Push the [VFO/M]
switch
to leave CALL
CHANNEL
mode.
e Push the [AFC]
switch.
e Set
the squelch
threshold
point.
e Reset scan edges.
e:Cancel
the
memory
skip
function
in
the
desired
channel.
è Replace
the
backup
bat-
tery.
Reset the CPU.
