API Recommended Practices 686. IMPORTANT: The design of piping and related systems is not the responsibility of Ruhrpumpen. It is, therefore recommended that the customer consult a competent specialist skilled in the field of piping to insure proper design/installation of all the piping.
  • Page 26 Vertical Wet Pit Axial Flow Pump Disconnect the piping from the pump if you heat one side of the pipe to align the pipe to the pump. Pump and pipe flanges must be parallel; they should mate together without effort, and with the bolt holes properly in line.
  • Page 27: Impeller Lift

Correctly performing the impeller lift procedure is crucial to a vertical pump´s optimal performance, since an incorrect impeller lift can cause a decrease in the pump´s efficiency and even damage to the pump. In case of any doubts, contact a Ruhrpumpen representative. V1.043020...
  • Page 28: Lubrication

6.2 ENCLOSED LUBRICATION 6.2.1 Oil Lubrication All standard VAF pumps are equipped with oil reservoirs and either manual or automatic solenoid operated drip feeders with allow oil to enter the shaft enclosing tube and lubricate each lineshaft bearings and finally the top discharge bowl bearing. The suction bell bearing is lubricated with waterproof grease from the factory and it is capable of optimal operation for several years.
  • Page 29: Driver Lubrication

Vertical Wet Pit Axial Flow Pump All the lineshaft and pump bowl bearings are grease lubricated from the surface using a system consisting of a grease reservoir, hand pump, indicating stems, valves and individual lines to each bearing. One operating cycle will charge each bearing with a measured amount of grease, as shown in the indicating stems.

Install a bypass. Should conditions arise which require greater head, contact Ruhrpumpen for recommendations. 7.1 PRIMING Since VAF pumps are submerged in the same fluid they pump, no special priming procedure is required. 7.2 STARTUP  Every time before the pump is started up the safety devices must be mounted and fastened.
  • Page 31 Vertical Wet Pit Axial Flow Pump  WARNING: Operating the pump with a closed discharge valve can result in excessive heat build-up and should be limited to the shortest practical duration. Operating the pump close to shut-off head usually places greater bending strains on the shaft than at operating points near the best efficiency point.
