Do not bypass or disarm any safety devices.

Always relieve fluid pressure before adjusting or servicing high pressure equipment. A jet of high-pressure fluid can cut like a knife and cause serious bodily injury, amputation, or death.

- Page 9 IPS-20 Automatic Electrostatic System Controller Action in the Event of a Malfunction If a system or any equipment in a system malfunctions, shut off the system immediately and perform the following steps: • Disconnect and lock out system electrical power. Close hydraulic and pneumatic shutoff valves and relieve pressures.
- Page 10 IPS-20 Automatic Electrostatic System Controller Description The IPS-20 Automatic Electrostatic System Controller provides electrostatic control, dc power, and monitoring functions for a single automatic liquid electrostatic spray gun. The controller can be used as a standalone unit or in a system with multiple spray guns, with triggering controlled by an external PLC.

Follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation. Mounting See Figure 4. Two M6 x .5 threaded inserts are available on each side of the cabinet for mounting with the optional mounting bracket kit.
- Page 14 10 IPS-20 Automatic Electrostatic System Controller Electrical Connections WARNING: Install a locking disconnect switch or breaker in the service line ahead of the equipment so power can be shut off during installation or repair. CAUTION: Equipment damage may occur if the control unit is connected to any line voltage other than that stated on the I.D.
- Page 15 IPS-20 Automatic Electrostatic System Controller 3. Connect the ground strap furnished with the controller to the cabinetground stud (3). Secure the clamp to a true earth ground. WARNING: All electrically conductive equipment in the spray area must be grounded. Ungrounded or poorly grounded equipment can store an electrostatic charge which can give personnel a severe shock, or arc and cause a fire or explosion.
- Page 16 12 IPS-20 Automatic Electrostatic System Controller Gun Type Configuration Use this procedure to set the type of spray gun connected to the controller. This only needs to be done when the controller is first installed or the circuit board is replaced.

Before operating a Nordson liquid spray system, read the system component manuals and familiarize yourself with the functions and operation of each component. A thorough understanding of system operation will help you obtain desired results and diagnose problems.
- Page 18 14 IPS-20 Automatic Electrostatic System Controller Adjustments WARNING: Turn off the electrostatic voltage and ground the spray gun electrode before making adjustments to the spray gun or nozzle. Obtaining a high-quality finish and maximum transfer efficiency (percentage of paint sprayed that adheres to the part) requires experimentation and experience. Settings for electrostatic voltage affect overall coating performance.

Follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation. WARNING: An ungrounded or poorly grounded workpiece, hanger or conveyor can cause electrostatic arcing. If arcing is observed, shut down the system immediately.
