REMOVING THE FUEL TANK
Carefully read p. 48 (FUEL) and p. 87
(MAINTENANCE).
WARNING
Risk of fire.
Wait until the engine and the exhaust si-
lencer have completely cooled down.
Fuel vapors are noxious for your health.
Do not inhale fuel vapors.
Gasoline is extremely flammable and in
some conditions can become explo-
sive.
Therefore, it is necessary to refuel and
carry out maintenance operations in-
volving the fuel system in a well-venti-
lated area with the engine off.
Do not refuel or do any maintenance on
the fuel system with the engine running.
Do not smoke while refueling or near
fuel vapors.
Never allow any portion of the fuel sys-
tem to come in contact with open
flames, sparks or other heat sources.
DISPOSE OF UNWANTED FUEL PROP-
ERLY.
CAUTION
Never drain the fuel tank, either partially
or completely. This may cause damage
to the inner components of the fuel tank,
or to other parts of the fuel system.
Always ensure that the fuel filler cap is
correctly closed.
NOTE
It is possible to remove the tank
from the vehicle when it is full of gasoline.

Turn the ignition switch to ≈ ∆ (OFF) po-
sition.

Place the vehicle on the stand, see p. 85
(PLACING THE VEHICLE ON THE
STAND).

Rotate the handlebars to the straight
ahead position (A).
◆
Remove the rider saddle, see 128 (RE-
MOVING THE RIDER SADDLE).
◆
Unscrew and remove the two screws (1)
retrieving the bushings and the washers.
NOTE
The two screws (1) fasten the
front part of the fuel tank (2).
Unscrew and remove the screw (3).
Unscrew and remove the screw (4).
Unscrew and remove the screw (5) re-
trieving the bushing and the washer.
Working from the right side of the vehi-
cle:
CAUTION
The fuel tank is not completely free, as
it is still attached by the lines.
Do not force the lines.

Raise the fuel tank (2) and move it slowly
backwards, until its front part rests on the
filter case.
