AIR CLEANER

Do not use petrol or inflammable
solvents to wash the air cleaner,
in order to avoid fires or explo-
sions.

Carefully read p. 39 (MAINTENANCE).
Remember: 1 mile = 1.6 km
1 km = 0.625 miles
Check the conditions of the air cleaner and
clean it monthly or every 4000 km, depend-
ing on the conditions in which the vehicle is
used. If the vehicle is used on dusty or wet
roads, the cleaning operations and any re-
placement should be carried out more fre-
quently. Before the cleaning operation, it is
necessary to remove the air cleaner from
the vehicle.
REMOVAL
Remove the right side cover, see p. 40
(REMOVING THE SIDE COVERS).
Unscrew and remove the three screws
(1) and take the relevant washers.

Remove the filter casing cover (2).
Clean the inside of the filter
casing before withdrawing the
filtering element, in order to prevent
dust and foreign matters from entering
the suction manifold.
Clean the inside of the filter casing and
of the filter casing cover (2) with a cloth.
Withdraw the filtering element (3)
complete with the grids (4) and (5).
CLEANING

In order not to deform the grids,
DO NOT force their sides.
Grasp the central part of both grids (4)
and (5), pull and separate them.
Release the filtering element (3) from the
grid (4).
Clean the filtering element (3) with clean,
non-inflammable solvents or solvents
with high volatility point, then let it dry
thoroughly.
Apply a filter oil or a thick oil (SAE 80W-
90) on the whole surface of the filtering
element, then squeeze it to eliminate the
oil in excess.

The filtering element (3) must be
well impregnated, though not
dripping.
CHANGE
Replace the filtering element (3) with a
new one of the same type.
Check the condition of the gasket (8); if it
is damaged, change it.

Upon reassembly:
Be careful to the shape of the
filtering element and the grids:
they must coincide.
Correctly introduce the filtering element
(3) in the two pins (6).
Position the grid (5).
Push both grids in correspondence with
c
the pins (6).
The two protruding elements (7)
avoid the incorrect insertion of
the filtering element in the filter casing.
Introduce the filtering element, complete
with grids, in the filter casing guides.
