certain conditions; for this reason the wearer should always take additional safety
precautions.
The electrical resistance of this type of boot can change considerably as a result of
flexing, contamination or moisture. If subjected to wet conditions, this boot will not fulfil
its prescribed function. It is therefore necessary to ensure that the boot is able to fulfil
its function of dissipating electrostatic charges and offer the required protection for its
whole service life. The wearer is therefore advised to carry out an on-site test of the
electrical resistance whenever necessary and repeat the test at regular short intervals.
Classification I boots may absorb moisture when worn for prolonged periods and
become conductive in damp and wet conditions.
If the boot is worn under conditions which contaminate the sole material, the wearer
should check the electrical properties of his or her footwear before entering a hazardous
area. In areas where antistatic boots are worn the resistance of the floor must be such
that it does not negate the protective function provided by the boot.
No insulating materials, with the exception of normal socks, may be inserted between
the boot's inlay sole and the wearer's foot. If an inner support sole is fitted between
the boot's inlay sole and the wearer's foot, the electrical properties of the connection
between the boot and inner support sole must be checked.
Inlay soles: Safety shoes manufactured and delivered with inlay soles were tested in
this condition and meet the requirements of the standard in effect. When the inlay sole
is changed, the shoe only retains its tested protective properties when the inlay sole is
replaced by a comparable inlay sole of the shoe manufacturer with identical design.
Safety shoes, which need to be modified orthopaedically, may only be modified with
inlay soles and materials which are certified by the manufacturer. The manufacturing
instructions of the manufacturer have to be followed.
Note: The insertion of inlay soles that are not identical in design may result in the safety
shoe no longer meeting the respective standards. The protective properties may be
impaired.
Safety shoes manufactured and delivered without inlay soles were also tested in this
condition and meet the requirements of the respective standard in effect.
Note: The subsequent insert of an inlay sole can impair the protective properties of the
shoe.
