Design / Selection Warning 1. Confirm the specifications. Products represented in this catalog are designed only for use in compressed air systems. Do not operate at pressures or temperatures, etc., beyond the range of specifications, as this can cause damage or malfunction. (Refer to the specifications.) We do not guarantee against any damage if the product is used outside of the specification range.

12. Select a speed within the product’s allowable energy value. If the product’s kinetic energy of the load exceeds the allowable value, it could damage the product, and cause a hazard to humans and damage the machinery and equipment. 13. Provide a shock absorber if the kinetic energy that is applied to the product exceeds the allowable value.
Page 7
Mounting Warning 1. Operation manual Install the product and operate it only after reading the operation manual carefully and understanding its contents. Also, keep the manual in a location where it can be referred to as necessary. 2. Ensure sufficient space for maintenance activities. When installing the products, allow access for maintenance.
Page 8
12. Place an external stopper in a position that is away from the rotating shaft. If the stopper is placed near the rotating shaft, the torque that is generated by the product itself will cause the reaction force which is directed to the stopper to be redirected and applied to the rotating shaft.
Page 9
Caution 1. Do not use organic solvent to wipe the area of the name plate that shows the model. It will erase what is indicated on the name plate. 2. Do not hit the rotating shaft by securing the body or hit the body by securing the rotating shaft.
Page 10
2. The cushion valve is not adjusted at the time of shipment. Therefore, an adjustment must be made in ccordance with the operating speed and the moment of inertia of the load. The absorption of kinetic energy by the bumper is regulated by the adjustment of the valve. An improper adjustment could lead to damage of the equipment and the product.
Page 11
2. Install an air filter. Install an air filter upstream near the valve. Select an air filter with a filtration size of 5μm or smaller. 3. Take measures to ensure air quality, such as by installing an aftercooler, air dryer, or water separator.

Auto Switches Precautions Design / Selection Warning 1. Confirm the specifications. If the product is used with excess load applied or beyond the specification range, this may cause the product to break or malfunction. We do not guarantee against any damage if the product is used outside of the specification range.
Page 13
8. Provide enough space for the lead wire. Applying stress to the lead wire and auto switch body connection part increases the risk of disconnection. Provide a space of at least the min. bending radius from the lead wire and auto switch body connection part.
Page 14
2) If the internal resistance of a light emitting diode causes a problem, select an auto switch without an indicator light. <Solid state / 2-wire type> Generally, the internal voltage drop of the solid state auto switch is larger than that or the reed auto switch.
Page 15
5. Mount an auto switch at the center of the operating range. In the case of 2-color display auto switch, mount it at the center of the green LED illuminating range. Adjust the mounting position of the auto switch so that the piston stops at the center of the operating range.
Page 16
5. Avoid repeatedly bending or stretching lead wires. Broken lead wires will result from repeatedly applying bending stress or stretching force to the read wires. Stress and tensile force applied to the connection between the lead wire and auto switch increases the possibility of disconnection.
Page 17
Operation Environment Warning 1. Never use in an atmosphere with explosive gases. The structure if auto switches is not intended to prevent explosion. This may lead to explosion hazard. Caution 1. Do not use in an area where a magnetic field is generated. Auto switches will malfunction or magnets inside rotary cylinders will become demagnetized.
Page 18
Maintenance Warning 1. Removal of equipment, and supply/exhaust of compressed air. Before any machinery or equipment is removed, first ensure that the appropriate measures are in place to prevent the fall or erratic movement of driven objects and equipment, then cut off the electric power and reduce the pressure in the system to zero.
1. Outline This operation manual explains “rack and pinion type compact rotary cylinder”. When using the product, load (moment of inertia), rotation time and other factors have to be considered. So, confirm the specification of the product prior to use. 1-1 Specifications Table 1-1 Specification Operating fluid...

3. Standard circuit used for rotary cylinder 3-1 Circuit composition Standard circuit for operating rotary cylinder by air filter, regulator, solenoid valve and speed controller is as Figure 2 below. Figure 2 Standard circuit 3-2 Recommended models Recommended models for standard circuit described on Figure 2 are as Table 2 below. Table2 Recommended models Size Solenoid valve...
4. Mounting 4-1 Allowable load and allowable moment of piston rod end If excessive lateral load or moment is given to piston rod, malfunction could be caused and internal parts could be damaged. Allowable value of this load (moment) is made different depending on direction of setting body or with or without arm lever at piston rod end.

4-3. Rotation direction and angle If the cylinder is pressurized from port A, piston rod rotates clock wise. By adjusting adjust bolt, rotation end can be set within the range described on. Figure 4-3 Figure 4-3. shows rotation angle with a reference position set at random. Each rotation angle end can be adjusted within ±5°.
Table 4-4.Manufacturers of friction fitting/Models Miki Pully Eysell Size (ETP Pushing) (Mechanical lock) ETP-K-12 MA12×26 ETP-K-12 MA14×28 4-5. Backlash The rotary motion part has a double-rack construction. The pinion gear has a hexagon hole, and a slight clearance exists between this hole and the hexagonal flats of the piston rod. This clearance generates a backlash in the rotational direction of the piston rod.
5. Setting of rotation time Even if the torque that is required by the load in the rotation movement is small, the internal parts could become damaged depending on the inertia of the load. Therefore, select an appropriate model for your application by taking the load’s moment of inertia, kinetic energy, and rotation time into consideration.
5-2. Kinetic energy Table 5-1 is allowable kinetic energy of Rotary cylinder. Rotating part of Rotary cylinder is short piston stroke, therefore, Rotary cylinder might reach stroke end during acceleration. Here, the angle speed ω can be obtained by formula below Table 5・1 Allowable kinetic energy Size Allowable kinetic energy...
5-3. Load type Inertia load Ta―Load should rotate by Rotary cylinder. 10 times effective torque is needed in order to rotate a load due to necessity of adjustment for operation speed. Rotary cylinder effective torque≧S・Ta (S is 10 times or more) Figure 5・3 ( 1 ) Load rate η...
Page 32
Figure 5・3 ( 3 ) ) For dynamic operation, the load ratio may be set even lower if it is particularly necessary to operate the cylinder at high speeds. Setting it lower provides a greater margin in the cylinder output, thus enabling the cylinder to accelerate more quickly.
6. Auto switch type for rotary cylinder Rotary cylinder have magnet on the piston. Also it has auto-switch on the outside to detect piston position. Rotating part of Rotary cylinder makes Piston stroke short, so please detect piston position at the stroke end.

7. Operation principal Linear part Figure 7・1 Rotation part Figure 7・2 On Linear part (Fig 7-1), Magnet is situated on the actuation range of auto-switch A. So, the auto-switch A is ON. When pressurized from piping port with arrow mark, piston starts moving toward right and stop when piston rod touches rod cover.
8. Maintenance Periodical check is needed according to application conditions to use rotary cylinder with the optimum. Check is desirable for once per year. Spare part (seal) replacement is recommended every 3 years, in spite of presence of any damage. 8-1.
