- The vehicle cannot be starte d if an unau-
thorized key is used. The vehicle may not
start if another radio device such as a key
for another vehicle or a transponder
is
located on the key ring.

Power
locking
system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the rear lid simultaneously.
You can lock and un lock the vehicle centrally.
You have the following choi ces:
- Remote master key ¢ page 41
- Door handles with Convenience key*
¢ page 42,
- Lock cylinder at the dr iver's door
¢ page 43, or
- Power locking switch inside ¢ page 43.
Selective unlocking
When they a re closed, the door and rea r lid
are locked . When unlocking, you can set in the
radio or in the MMI* whether only the driver's
door or the entire vehicle shou ld be unlocked
¢ page 41.
Automatic locking
The automa ti c loc king feat ure locks a ll the ve-
hicle doors and the rear lid when you drive
faster tha n 9 mph (15 km/h) .
The ca r is un locked again o nce t he ignition key
is removed. In addition, the veh icle can be un-
locked if the opening function in the power
Lacking system switch or at one of the door
levers is actuated. The Auto lock ing funct ion
can be t urned on and off in the radio or in the
MM!" ¢ page 41.
Additiona lly, in the event of a crash with air-
bag deployment the doors are automatically
un locked to a llow access to the veh icle.
Anti-theft alarm warning system
If t he an t i-the ft alarm warning sys t em de-
tects a break-in into the vehicle, acous t ic and
vis ual warn ing s ignals a re tr iggered .
The anti-theft wa rning sys t em is activated au-
tomat ica lly when you lock the vehi cle. It is d e-
activated when unlocking using the rem ot e
key,
with the me chanical key, and w hen you
switch on the ignition.
The alarm a lso t urns off when the al arm cycle
has expired .
Turn signals
When you unlock the veh icle, the turn s ignals
flash twice. When you lock the vehicle, the
tu rn signals flash once.
If
they do not flash,
one of t he doo rs, t he rear lid or the hood is
not locked.
Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the fo llow ing cases there safeguards to
prevent yo u locking you r remo t e master key in
the vehi cle:
- If a door is open, the veh icle cannot be
locked using the cent ral loc king system

- On veh icles with Convenience key*, if the
most recently used master key is in the lug-
gage compartmen t , t he rear lid is automat i-
cally unlocked again after it is closed

Do not lock your veh icle w ith the remot e m as-
ter key

closed. In this way yo u avoid locking yourse lf
out acc identally .

WARNING
~
- W hen you leave the ve hicle, always re -
move the ignition key and take it with
you. This will prevent passengers
(chil-
dren, for example) from acc identally be-
ing locked in the vehicle should they acci-
denta lly press the power locking switch
in th e front doors.
- Do not leave ch ildren inside the vehicle
unsuperv ised. In an emergency it would
