DRIVEABILITY - DIESEL
P0500-VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR FREQUENCY TOO HIGH —
TEST

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the CAB harness connectors.
Disconnect the ECM harness connectors.
Remove the ASD Relay from the PDC.
Connect a jumper wire between cavity 30 and cavity 87 of the ASD Relay connector.
Turn the ignition on.
Measure the voltage on the Vehicle Speed Signal circuit.
Is the voltage above 1.0 volt?
Yes → Repair the Vehicle Speed Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
→ Replace and program the Engine Control Module in accordance
No

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the CAB harness connectors.
Turn the ignition on.
Connect one end of a jumper wire to the Vehicle Speed Signal circuit.
With the DRB, select, isolate and observe the Vehicle Speed status while tapping the
other end of the jumper wire to ground.
Does the DRB display a vehicle speed change while tapping the jumper wire to
ground?
Yes → Replace the Controller Antilock Brake Module in accordance with
→ Replace and program the Engine Control Module in accordance
No

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the CAB harness connectors.
Disconnect the ECM harness connectors.
Measure the resistance between ground and the Vehicle Speed Signal circuit.
Is the resistance above 100 kohms?
Yes → Go To 8
→ Repair the Vehicle Speed Signal circuit for a short to ground.
No

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the CAB harness connectors.
Disconnect the ECM harness connectors.
Measure the resistance of the Vehicle Speed Signal circuit.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes → Go To 9
→ Repair the Vehicle Speed Signal circuit for an open.
No

If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair.
