Description
This document briefly describes SpectraLink's standardized drop test method and pass-fail criteria.
SpectraLink's drop test is derived from the free fall testing procedure defined in IEC/ANSI 60068-2-32 and
enables reproducible assessments of the drop test performance and durability of SpectraLink Link WTS and
NetLink Wireless Telephones.
Drop Test Methodology
The test is designed to simulate falls which a given handset model might undergo during normal operation,
and to verify that it meets or exceeds the handset's durability specification. It is based on falls in random
orientation onto a hard unpadded (ceramic) floor surface from a specified drop height (listed in the table
below). After each fall, the victim device is visually examined and electrically and mechanically verified, as
outlined below.
Drop Test Sampling
In an effort to ensure consistent maximum quality of newly manufactured products, SpectraLink performs
these tests with a statistically significant sample and on a quarterly basis.
Drop Test Pass Criteria
After each drop:
•The handset must be capable of being registered to a system
•The handset must be capable of placing and receiving calls with voice quality indistinguishable from newly
manufactured devices
•No mechanical PC board damage or sign of loose components are evident
•Cosmetic scratching or scarring to the plastic enclosure are acceptable; however, broken or cracked
enclosures are not acceptable
•Separation and/or damage to the Battery Pack, including battery failures, are acceptable
Handset Specifications
