SECTION 5 – OPERATING THE WELDING GENERATOR

5-1. Front Panel Controls For 110 and 220 Volt Models

Engine Lights

Battery Charging Light
Light goes on if engine alternator is not charg-
ing battery. Engine continues to run.
Y Stop engine and fix trouble if Battery
Charging Light goes on.

Engine Temperature Light
Light goes on and engine stops if engine tem-
perature is too high.
Y Stop engine and fix trouble if Engine
Temperature Light goes on.

Engine Oil Pressure Light
Light goes on and engine stops if oil pressure
is too low. Light goes on momentarily during
start-up but goes out when engine reaches
normal oil pressure.
Y Stop engine and fix trouble if Engine
Oil Pressure Light stays on after start-
up.

Glow Plug Light
Glow plugs warm in about 7 seconds and en-
gine can be started (see following starting in-
structions).
Y Do not use glow plug position of En-
gine Control Switch once the light
goes out.
Engine Gauges

Engine Hour Meter
Use gauge to check actual hours of engine op-
eration and to determine when maintenance is
needed.

Fuel Gauge
Use gauge to check fuel level.
Weld Controls

Amperage Adjustment Control
Use this control to select the desired weld out-
put from 30 to 300 amperes. The dial is cali-
brated in actual amperes for easy adjustment.

Panel or Remote Amperage Control
Switch
When placed in the Panel (up) position, only
the front panel amperage adjustment control
selects the amperage output. When placed in
the Remote 3 (down) position, the Remote
Amperage Control selects the amperage out-
put.

Remote Amperage Control receptacle
Connect remote device and use to select out-
put amperes.
Engine Starting Controls
10 Engine Speed Switch
Use switch to select engine speed
Place switch in Run/Idle (up) position to start
engine. In Run/Idle position (up) the engine
idles until a weld or power load is applied.
Then it operates at run speed until the power
load is removed or welding stopped. The en-
gine returns to idle rpm about 7 seconds after
the power or weld load is removed.

Place switch in Run or Run/Idle position
when using generator power.

Place switch in Run position to operate
most GMAW equipment.

To Start:
Above 325 F: Place Engine Speed Switch in
Run/Idle and turn Engine Control Switch to
Start. Release Engine Control switch when
engine starts and Engine Oil Pressure Light
goes out.

If engine does not start, let engine come
to a complete stop before attempting re-
start.
Below 325 F: Place Engine Speed Switch in
Run/Idle. Turn Engine Control Switch to Glow
Plug position for about seven seconds until
Glow Plug light goes out, and then turn Engine
Control Switch to Start. Release switch when
engine starts and Engine Oil Pressure Light
goes out. Do not crank engine while engine is
turning.

If engine does not start, let engine come
to a complete stop before attempting re-
start.
To Stop: Turn Engine Control switch to Off
position.
11 Emergency Stop Switch
Press this switch to stop the engine at any
time.
12 Engine Control Switch (Key-Switch
Shown)

A key-type starting switch is shown. Unit
may be equipped with other types of start-
ing switches.
Use this switch to start engine, stop engine,
and operate glow plugs for cold weather start-
ing. Glow plugs warm in about 7 seconds and
engine can then be started when the glow plug
light goes out.
