Troubleshooting

Power supply

Symptom
The camcorder does not
power on.
The power supply cuts
while operating.
The battery pack becomes
exhausted very quickly.

Recording/playback

Symptom
Recording does not start
when you press the record
button.
Audio recording is not
possible.
The recorded sound is
distorted.
The recorded sound has a
high noise level.
Clips cannot be played
back.
Cause
No battery pack is mounted and no
power is supplied to the DC IN
connector.
The battery pack is completely
exhausted.
The battery pack becomes exhausted.
The ambient temperature is very low.
The battery pack is inadequately
charged.
Cause
The memory card is write-protected.
The memory card is full.
The memory card needs restoration.
The audio recording level is set to the
minimum level.
The audio level is too high.
The audio level is too low.
The clip is being edited.
The clip is being recorded on another
device.
Solution
Mount a battery pack (page 20) or connect to AC
power using an AC adapter (page 21).
Replace the battery pack with a fully charged one
(page 20).
Replace the battery pack with a fully charged one

This is due to the battery characteristics and is
not a defect.
Recharge the battery pack (page 20).
If the battery pack is soon exhausted even after
you charged it fully, it may comes to the end of
its life. Replace it with a new one.
Solution
Release the write-protection, or replace the card
with a non-protected memory card.
Replace the card with one having sufficient
space.
Restore the memory card (page 25).
Adjust the audio recording level (page 33).

When an external microphone is selected, also
adjust the INPUT MIC Reference setting under
Audio Input in the Audio menu (page 96).
An error or warning may not be displayed
depending on the status of the camcorder. This is

file names or folders, or if the clip is in use on a
computer. This is not a malfunction.
