3.6 Mounting of the Ground Sensor on a Shielded Cable

Before installing the sensors on the underground cables, disconnect the power to all the cables, depending
upon the cable mount type.
The ground sensor is used to measure the current unbalance between the 3 phases. For the proper measure-
ment of the ground current, ignore the current flowing through the shield and that is achieved by using the
following mounting methods:
•
Mounting Method A:
The sensor is mounted on the shielded part of the cable. To neutralize the current flowing through the
shield, expose the shield and mount a conductive clamp with an insulated wire and pass the wire back
through the sensor and connect it to ground. Refer to Figure 3-12
•
Mounting Method B :
The sensor is mounted on the unshielded cable. Refer to Figure 3-12
