SDM is a safety system that protects the engine from
being damaged. It automatically shuts down the
engine if:
Engine speed (RPM) is too high.
Engine oil pressure is too low. (Optional)
Cooling temperature is too high. (Optional)
Reverse gear oil pressure is too low. (Optional)
The bridge emergency stop is activated. (Optional)
The engine room emergency stop is activated.

Reset
When the fault that caused the shutdown is solved the
system needs to be reset before restart. Reset the
shutdown system by pushing the reset button (1) on
the control unit cabinet in the engine room.
Shutdown Override
IMPORTANT:
When shutdown override is active the engine will not
be protected by the shutdown system, this may cause
damage to the engine. Even events that would
normally cause a derate of the engine will be
overridden. Therefore, if the shutdown override mode
is active, Volvo Penta's product liability may cease.
In shutdown override mode the engine will not shut
down for any reason other than overspeed. The
shutdown override mode is active for as long as the
switch remains in override mode.
NOTICE! When shutdown override mode is active, the
display will show fault messages for engine shutdown
but no actual shut down will take place.
