Step 4: Component and Function Checks
Action:
Check for air in the fuel system.
Check that the air vents are open in the fuel tank(s).
Check that the fuel quality is within specifications.
Check that there is no carbon monoxide in the fuel.
Check that there is no carbon monoxide in the coolant.
Check that the fuel supply pressure is within specifications from idle speed to the rated
engine speed.
Check that the intake manifold pressure sensor is registering the proper value (functioning
properly).
Check charge air hoses and connections for damage, restrictions, or signs of engine
oil inside the piping.
Check that the water separator/pre-filter is free from water and restrictions.
Check the air intake and charge air systems for damage, leakage and restrictions. Make
sure they are free from oil contamination.
Check for external blockage between the A/C condenser, charge air cooler, and radiator.
Check that the coolant temperature sensor functions properly.
Check the exhaust manifold for leaks and exhaust system for damage, restrictions, or
any modifications that would restrict the exhaust outlet.
Check the power supply/ground and wiring harness for engine ECU, including connectors
and terminal pins for damage or oxidation.
Check the fuel supply pump seals, valves, and shaft/gears for damage or wear.
Check that the EPG is operating properly.
