Step 4: Component and Function Checks
Action:
Check for air in the fuel system.
Check that the fuel quality is within specifications.
Check that there is no carbon monoxide in the fuel.
Check that there is no carbon monoxide in the coolant.
Check that the fuel supply pressure is within specifications from idle speed to the rated
engine speed.
Check that the intake manifold pressure sensor is registering the proper value (functioning
properly).
Check charge air hoses and connections for damage, restrictions, or signs of engine
oil inside the piping.
Check the charge air cooler for leaks, damage, or restrictions, including blockage at
the A/C condenser and radiator.
Check the power supply/ground and wiring harness for engine ECU, including connectors
and terminal pins for damage or oxidation.
Check the fuel supply pump seals, valves, and shaft/gears for damage or wear (including
end play).
Check that the EPG is operating properly.
Check the turbocharger compressor wheel for damage or signs of rubbing against
housing; also check end play.
Check that the engine ECU receives the correct signals from the flywheel and camshaft
sensors.
Check that the VCB control valve is regulating the proper oil pressure to the rocker arm
shaft when VCB is not active.
Check that the EGR valves function properly and are not stuck in an open or semi-open
position.
Check the EGR reed valves for damage or failure (D12D).
Check that the valves and injectors are adjusted within specifications.
