Replacing your Interurban Car's lamps

T
he interior of your Interurban Car is
illuminated by four lamps. The head-
lights are lit by miniature 14-volt "grain of
rice" lamps. During the course of normal
operation, they may require replacement.
Start by separating the plastic body shell
from the frame; remove the six screws on
the underside of the frame and lift the body
up, being careful with the attached wires.
See page 16 for the location of the screws.
Unplug the connector if necessary.
Each interior lamp rests in a holder on
the roof-mounted circuit board, with its
prongs plugged into a socket. Carefully pull
the bulb straight out of the holder to remove
it. Replace the expired lamp with Lionel part
no. 610-8049-300, available from your local
Lionel Authorized Service Center or Lionel
Service. (For more information, see Lionel
Service on page 20.)

Insert the replacement lamp's prongs
into the socket, making sure of a tight
connection. Gently bend the leads over to
make a 90° angle, similar to the other
bulbs. To replace a headlight lamp
assembly, unplug the leads from the head-
light to the roof-mounted circuit board.
Using a small screwdriver, carefully push the
headlight lens out slightly from the head-
light housing to release the trapped bulb.
Replace the bulb assembly with part
no. 610-8328-100, also available from your
local Lionel Authorized Service Center or
Lionel Service. Push the lens back in to trap
the bulb in place.
To reinstall the shell, reverse the proce-
dure. Line up the screw holes on the frame
with body shell, and reinsert the screws.
Make sure all of the wires are inside the
body before you tighten the screws.
