Chapter 4 - Using Charts
Displaying your present position on a chart
Page 42
You can display your present position on the CHART screen at
any time by pressing the 326,7,21 key (twice, if necessary). A
lat/lon grid also may be displayed that overlays the chart.
The CHART screen provides a "north-up" view of the area sur-
rounding your vessel, which is displayed in the center of the
screen. In the 951, water is displayed in white and land areas
are displayed in gray. In the 952, for normal or hi-brite screen
viewing options (normal is the factory default option), water is
displayed in white and land areas are displayed in brown; for
nighttime viewing, water is displayed in black and land areas
are displayed in green.
You also can display your current route (if any), your track his-
tory, and any nearby waypoints and avoidance points.
The image of your boat displayed on the CHART screen points
in the direction of your COG (if you're moving). Remember:
this direction may be different from your heading. The boat
image shows your actual direction of travel over the bottom,
not the direction your boat is headed. If your boat isn't mov-
ing, the unit can't determine your COG, and the direction of
the boat on the screen has no meaning.
Avoidance areas (waypoints for which you've defined a warn-
ing radius) are shown as a circle surrounding the waypoint.

the bottom of the screen (the chart scale is the approximate
