Install the Application Gateway Hardware

This section describes how to install the Application Gateway hardware in your

network. For upgrade instructions, refer to the Application Gateway Release Notes.
Requirements
To set up the Application Gateway, you need the following items in addition to what is
provided with the Application Gateway:
A computer capable of hosting terminal console communication through a serial port or a

computer and an Ethernet crossover cable
One or two network cables to connect the Application Gateway to a LAN (typically, only

one cable is needed unless the Application Gateway will straddle two networks)
Procedure
The following steps summarize the hardware installation procedure described in the
Application Gateway Hardware Installation Guide. These steps assume that you are using the serial
console to change the default IP address of the Application Gateway (10.20.30.40).
Alternatively, you can use the Web-based Administration Tool interface, by connecting a
personal computer to the Application Gateway via an Ethernet crossover cable, as described in
the Application Gateway Hardware Installation Guide.
For the Application Gateway 1000 only, upgrade to 1 GByte of memory, install the server

in a rack (if rack-mounted), and change the boot sequence as described in the Application
Gateway Hardware Installation Guide.
For the Application Gateway 2000, install the Application Gateway in a rack (if
rack-mounted).
Use a network cable to connect the Application Gateway LAN1 (Interface 0) port to your

network. For information on using the LAN2 (Interface 1) port, refer to the Application
Gateway Hardware Installation Guide.
Make sure that a PC capable of hosting terminal emulation software is connected to the

Application Gateway. Connect the null-modem cable to the 9-pin serial port on the
Application Gateway and connect the cable to a computer that is capable of running
terminal emulation software.
Power on both systems.
