Preparing for Installation

Before you install WLAN Management Software, make sure you have the appropriate administrative privileges on the

Before you install WLAN Management Software, make sure that you are logged in as a user who has permission to
install software, or as an administrator.
If you are installing on Linux, you must log on with root privileges.
After you install WLAN Management Software, you can configure WMS access privileges for the user accounts on the
machine. Likewise, you can configure access privileges for the monitoring service, if installed. Access privileges for the
WMS client are completely independent of access privileges for the monitoring service, and are configured separately.

Serial Number and License Key

The serial number is included with your WLAN Management software packaging. You must request a license key from
Nortel for each host on which you plan to use site planning or monitoring. One license allows you to use WLAN
Management software planning or install the monitoring service on one system. Depending on the license, you might
also have restrictions on the number of APs you can manage using WLAN Management software.
When requesting a license key, you must provide your serial number and the hostname of the system on which WLAN
Management software is to be installed, and indicate the feature(s) you want to license.
Nortel recommends that you request a license key through WMS after installation. If that is not possible, you can contact
the Nortel Enterprise Technical Support (NETS). (See
"Getting help from the Nortel web site" (page
